The SMART SKY Program

SMART SKY
The Sky’s the limit-Unless You can’t See It

Look upward through a telescope, and you begin to grasp what that expression truly means: wonder, discovery, and infinite possibility. But for too many people—especially in urban communities—that experience is out of reach. Skies obscured by pollution. Views blocked by buildings, bright lights, a lack of access to technology or opportunity. Smart Sky is changing that.

Smart Sky is a groundbreaking program that brings the universe within reach for everyone. Using advanced, innovative optical telescopes, we defy barriers—geographic, physical, and economic—to open the night sky to students, families, and lifelong learners. We create access. We ignite curiosity. And we invite everyone to explore the cosmos through interactive, enriching scientific experiences that expand minds and uplift communities.

Who is Smart Sky For?

Smart Sky is designed for people of diverse ages, ethnicities, abilities, and educational backgrounds, particularly those living in areas with light pollution. The program will not only provide access to innovative telescopes but also offer the exhilarating experience of viewing distant astronomical phenomena, such as galaxies and stars. Get ready to be part of the thrill of scientific exploration!

The Smart Sky program is administered through groups, particularly

  • Junior high school students in grades 6,7.8

  • High school students in STEM programs

  • College and university students

  • Senior citizen groups

  • Disabled veterans organizations

What are the Benefits of Smart Sky?

  • People who have had limited access to the wonders of astronomy can now participate and learn for free.

  • Participants will be able to network with sky enthusiasts in other Smart Sky groups and, like professional scientists, enjoy both the educational and social advantages of sharing their observations and discoveries.

  • Participants who experience isolation will have the opportunity to get involved in something unique and beneficial to their overall well-being. Multiple mobile devices connected to the `smart' telescope will enable participants to share their discoveries on BEGST social networks

  • Students in school STEM programs will enjoy the advantage of learning with superior telescope technology as well as BEGST's astronomy experts right in their classroom.

  • Schools that host a Smart Sky program will be more attractive to grant-awarding organizations for offering this innovative supplement to their regular science or STEM curriculum.

  • All Smart Sky equipment is provided on loan to qualified organizations and institutions. For additional information, contact us by email: administration@begst.org
