BEGST was formed to inspire minority students to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers, which are among the fastest growing and highest paid in today’s world, and to ensure their success in the educational experience that will prepare them for those careers. To date, people of color remain underrepresented in science and technology careers and in STEM programs at colleges and universities. Though these institutions have pledged to improve the situation, many of them fall short of reaching their goals. That’s where BEGST sees the opportunity for change.
We believe that broad participation by colleges and universities in these project-based programs will have a profound effect on the academic and professional future for students of color and also enrich the STEM fields that will someday benefit from the talents and future accomplishments of this as yet underserved student population.
